HOW NIGERIAN BOOK REVIEWERS ARE A BIT DISADVANTAGED BY THEIR NATIONALITY.

Hi, I'm Rayo, and welcome to another chapter! In today's chapter, I'll be discussing my country (Nigeria) and how it puts Nigerian book reviewers at a disadvantage. If you've not been following these weekly specials, I'm going to add the links below (right from chapter 1).

Now let's get to the gist. As a Nigerian book reviewer, we don't have access to certain things, which include and are not limited to just these:

A. Goodreads giveaways
: Of all the giveaways I've seen or come across on Goodreads, not once have I seen one that includes citizens of Nigeria, and honestly, I think Goodreads should be more inclusive in bringing more giveaways that cut across all countries!

B. Book Influencer Programs
: The other day I was going through the criteria for you to be eligible for these programs, and I saw a particular phrase for almost ten programs I checked, which is 'You have to live in the US'.

C. Libraries that actually offer fictional books

D. Hardcovers/Paperbacks: This is the one that hurts the most 😫πŸ˜₯. I can't consider myself a full-fledged book girlie because I've never read, felt,or smelled an actual hardcover or paperback that I actually like. The cost of books here in Nigeria is 🀯🀯🀯🀯 and I don't think my account balance can handle my love for paperbacks or even hardcovers.

E. No Kindle:
At least if kindles were actually available in Nigeria, the hurt from not buying paperbacks or hardcovers would sting less, but NO! Kindles are not available in Nigeria, so I cannot even participate in 'stuff your kindle day' arrgh😫😫

There are actually a lot of issues that affect Nigerian book reviewers, but I think the one that stings the most is the high cost of books. Nigerians are readers too πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬πŸ“–πŸ“–πŸ“–

QUESTION: Nigeiran Book Reviewers, what are some other issues that affect your book reviewing journey?

P.S. If you're a Nigerian book reviewer, let's connect on either Instagram(rayo_reads )or Facebook ( Rayo Reads)

♡♡ Sending my love to every Nigeian Book Reviewer♡♡

FROM ONE TO FIVE

Another Saturday, another bookish rantπŸ˜‚πŸ˜Š. Welcome to another chapter of weekly special book lovers πŸ“šπŸ˜. The star rating system: a simple way to sum up our thoughts on a book, or an outdated habit that's due for a change? The other day I saw a post on Instagram about whether book reviewers still made use of "stars" when reviewing books, and I was compelled to make this a topic on my book segment! So the question is, 'Do reviewers and generally book lovers still make use of stars when reviewing books?' As a book reviewer myself, I love making use of stars, and I will never stop making use of them except a better system comes up for scaling books πŸ˜‚. It is also true that I correct my ratings accordingly. What do I mean by this? This is what I mean: when rating books, I go by my mood and excitement after completion of the book, and I immediately rate books. I may look back on my emotions after reading a particular book and correct my ratings. I recently...

WHO AM I?

In this chapter of the Weekly Special, I am going to dive into who I am aside from being a book reviewer! I know y'all are probably thinking that all I do with my time is read books and rate them on a scale of five πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. Probably not! So the question is, Who is RayoReads? I am Rayo, and this is who I am aside from reading and reviewing books. 1. I am a student at Delta State University in Abraka studying physiology. How cool, right? (just joking) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ . When school is in session, studies take up most of my time, which is why I am so happy when we go on breaks.  2. I am a very introverted person, which you will have guessed, so no partying, going out , excessive friends, and the rest. 3. I am an indoors person, but that does not mean I sleep a lot πŸ’€πŸ˜‚ .P.S.: I don't like taking afternoon naps. 4. I am not a big social person, but you can find me on Facebook: (  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087184700959&mibextid=ZbWKwL )    Instagram (...
