FROM ONE TO FIVE

Another Saturday, another bookish rant๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜Š. Welcome to another chapter of weekly special book lovers ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜.

The star rating system: a simple way to sum up our thoughts on a book, or an outdated habit that's due for a change?

The other day I saw a post on Instagram about whether book reviewers still made use of "stars" when reviewing books, and I was compelled to make this a topic on my book segment! So the question is, 'Do reviewers and generally book lovers still make use of stars when reviewing books?'

As a book reviewer myself, I love making use of stars, and I will never stop making use of them except a better system comes up for scaling books ๐Ÿ˜‚.

It is also true that I correct my ratings accordingly. What do I mean by this? This is what I mean: when rating books, I go by my mood and excitement after completion of the book, and I immediately rate books. I may look back on my emotions after reading a particular book and correct my ratings.

I recently completed a book this week, and I initially rated it 3 stars, and upon writing the review, I had a shift (I can't adequately find words to describe what caused the shift or why I had a shift). I had to change my initial rating of 3 stars to 2 stars.

My ratings are made up of whole numbers like 1 or 2, and this is what I mean when I rate books from 1 to 5 stars.

1 Star ⭐ >>> I did not like the book one bit.
2 Stars⭐⭐ >>> The book was just bad/not okay for me; in other words, I struggled with the book.
3 Stars⭐⭐⭐ >>> It was an okay read.
4 Stars⭐⭐⭐⭐>>> I loved it and will recommend the book.
5 Stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ >>> I absolutely enjoyed the story, and it will always have a special place in my heart ♥

Moreover, I love the fact that I can access how I felt about a certain book just by looking at the star ratings I gave it.

To buttress my point of how important star ratings are, review sites such as Goodreads, Booksirens, Netgalley, and Amazon all make use of the star rating system, so I don't think the star rating system is going anywhere anytime soon ๐Ÿ˜„!

And with that, we have come to the end of this segment. See you next (or next) Saturday. Until next time, stay bookish and wonderful!!

Question of the Day: How important are star ratings to you when deciding what books to read?

  3. These are very good questions and you make some good points. The star rating system can be incredibly helpful and equally flawed. But it's useful for now so what can we say.

  5. I find it useful to look for star ratings by others. It gives me an insight on how ppl reacted to the book. Yet, I myself do not like to rate the books I read, because I can never decide lol.

BOOK REVIEW RUNDOWN: REMEMBER ME TOMORROW

๐Ÿ“– BOOK TITLE: REMEMBER ME TOMORROW  ๐Ÿ“–AUTHOR: FARAH HERON ๐Ÿ“–THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:  #127thBookOf2024 Yes, this book is a little bonkers. This is a very unconventional love story, and you have to really get at it to grasp the story between Jay and Aleeza. You know I love everything time travel/parallel universe-related, and with each fiction book I read about this topic, my mind is blown away every single time. Yes, there's more mystery elements than the rom-com because how can Aleeza be in love with Jay, who is not even in her timeline, talk about a guy who is unavailable? I loved how put together this book was, how the mystery elements worked together; there was no point in this book that was left to assumptions; everything was explained well without being boring and overly descriptive. Overall, I really enjoyed this story, and definitely this will not be my last Farah Heron's book. ๐Ÿ“–RATINGS: 4 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ๐Ÿ“–QUOTES: ♤ Time isn’t linear. There are an infin...

BOOK REVIEW RUNDOWN: REZ BALL

๐Ÿ“– BOOK TITLE: REZ BALL  ๐Ÿ“– AUTHOR : BRYON GRAVES  ๐Ÿ“– THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:  #146thBookof2024 I am really surprised that this is a debut novel! I really have no words to describe what I felt when I was reading this book so I am going to leave my review like this.  Wow!!! I am no basketball enthusiast but I'm so glad I discovered this book, I am so glad I got to read this book! You can see how raw the emotions are, you begin to feel what the author felt when he was penning down this book! We need more books like this!! Time to go and watch the movie!! ๐Ÿ“– RATINGS : 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

#16 NETGALLEY READ: SOMEONE LIKE YOU

๐Ÿ“– BOOK TITLE: SOMEONE LIKE YOU    ๐Ÿ“–AUTHOR: SANDY BARKER  ๐Ÿ“–THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:  #134thBookOf2024 Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books, and Sandy Barker for granting my request to read this e-ARC and provide my honest opinions. I would have rated this 3.5 stars, but I rounded it up to 4 stars. The whole transition from friends to lovers took me on a ride, and I really thought that both Raff's and Gaby's HEAs (Happily Ever After) would not happen due to some circumstances on both MCs part. "Someone Like You" is the fourth book in the "Ever After Agency Series," and I read this book as a standalone even without reading the rest in the series. Honestly, I feel that no one can be as dumb and oblivious as Raff. Like, seriously, dude, how can you not know when someone is flirting with you? The whole matchmaker bit got me excited (that's a dream job). Overall, I really enjoyed this story, even if I thought it was way too long and dragging ...
