BOOK REVIEW RUNDOWN: FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS

📖 BOOK TITLE:  FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS 📖AUTHOR: SHANI AKILAH  📖THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:   #NinetySixthBookOf2024 #4BooksToHundred🎉 Short stories often leave me with mixed feelings; most of the stories have more depth than others, and that, to me, is the most interesting part because you get to use your imagination to complete the story! These short story collections take us through the lives of interconnected people and maybe friends. And obviously, I have some favorites, which are: The Commute : This would make such an interesting rom-com. Find the guy with your favorite book, but you don't know anything about him. Cute!🥰 Good Goodbye : I kind of feel sad for Jon and Gabby; their love would have had potential if one of them let go of their ego. Ghana in December : The thing with grief is that it never fully disappears; you live with it your entire life. Love in Crisis : I genuinely wanted to see how this ended. What did Michael say to Dami when he...

BOOK REVIEW RUNDOWN: THE LOVE OF MY AFTERLIFE

📖 BOOK TITLE: THE LOVE OF MY AFTER LIFE  📖AUTHOR: KIRSTY GREENWOOD  📖THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:  #NinetyFifthBookOf2024 #FiveBooksToHundred 🎉 I'm going to start this review with a quote: Life is not about filling time; it's about fulfilling it. I laughed, I shed some tears (even if I'm not going to admit that to anyone 🤭) and I loved it. When I started this book, I had some mixed feelings. Halfway through, I was like, okay. Towards the end, I was laughing, cleaning my tears that I so didn't cry 😂😂, and patting myself on the back, saying that I'm so glad I finished this book.  Delphie meets her soulmate at Evermore and instantly strikes a deal with her afterlife therapist Merritt to go back to Earth to search for him (a scavenger hunt for a man😂), and then she enlists the help of her grumpy neighbor R.L. Cooper (if you've read the book, you'll realize like I did that Cooper's initials are very funny), and even though I'd already f...

BOOK REVIEW RUNDOWN: THE COUPLE

📖BOOK TITLE: THE COUPLE 📖AUTHOR: HELLY ACTON  📖THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:  #NinetyFourthBookOf2024 Let's start with this question from Helly's reading group question: If Oxytoxin existed, would you take it? NO! BIG NO. Our feelings are not illnesses. The Couple was one of those books that made me think a lot after I finished reading it, and, P.S., it's more of a dystopia than a romance. This book turns the table around on relationships and singlehood. Have you ever thought about what will happen if couples are shamed? It is a very weird concept, like when you tell someone you are in a 'couple'  and they will begin asking you questions about your wellbeing and stuff like that. But even as uncomfortable as this book made me feel, I saw and understood what Helly was trying to portray: a parallel world, a world that is quite the opposite of ours. And with this illustrated parallel world, you'll begin to understand that: 1. You can't shame people fo...

BOOK REVIEW RUNDOWN: SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN

📖BOOK TITLE: SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN  📖AUTHORS:  PAMELA SAMUELS YOUNG  || DWAYNE ALEXANDER SMITH  📖THOUGHTS&OPINIONS:  #NinetythirdBookOf2024 I'll always say that 'It Had to be You' by Eliza Jane Braizer got me into this kind of book. The act of mixing danger or thrill with a romantic interest is just genius. So the review: I guess I loved one of the characters more than the other, and obviously that character will be Mackenzie; her POV is more fast-paced than Jones. Aside from that, the chemistry between Mackenzie and Jackson is definitely lacking, and their incessant bickering is just annoying. I can't even imagine what will happen when they merge together. The thrill aspect was definitely exciting, but I was expecting more. For two so-called "great" PI investigators, I expected them to unravel the mystery before it even started, but a lot of money was on the line, and if they had unraveled the mystery before it even began, there would be no...
